MY FACE BE ACTING A FOOL!

My face has been acting a FOOL the past week or so! Little breakouts and nasty clogged pores. Just a whole bunch of yuckiness that I don't have time for. I mean what girl does have time to fit a nasty breakout in? Come on, with summer upon us and our social calenders filling up we need to look our BEST at all times! I haven't broken out like this FOREVER, hence my lack luster product remedies in my skincare drawer. I rushed to Sephora and whimpered to the sales associate about my dilemma. She probably thought I was crazy and overreacting, but needless to say she was super sweet and acted concerned. She told me I would be back to my old self before I new it with some serious help from this lil gem:

MMJ Circuital Album Release Concert

I was lucky enough to score some tickets to the Louisville Palace Theater for the My Morning Jacket (MMJ) concert on Tuesday night. It was their album release for their new Circuital cd. What an amazing show.....ooooooooweeeee!

They suggested fans to dress "fancy!" haha

My "fancy" getup consisted of wedges, white cut off shorts and sequins shirt! I was on a time crunch........give me a break. Fancy on top and casual on bottom :). Shorts proved to be great decision considering the massive heatwave inside. I thought I got air conditioning with my ticket?!?

Anyways, on to the fun stuff.......my MAKEUP!

WHAT I SAY:

These eyeliners are amazing. They literally last all day and I even find myself having to use q-tip soaked in eye makeup remover to get it all off after I have washed my face. I LOVE not having to worry about the eyeliner being all under my eyes while I'm at work slaving away over my computer. Even on my tough days where I shed a few tears its nice to know that eyeliner tears aren't streaming down my face. On a happier note, all my brides that are streaming tears of happiness don't have to fret about messing up their picture perfect makeup :). AMAZING!

Eyeshadow creasing.....yuckie

With temperatures rising and summer right around the corner, tackling oiliness on the skin becomes a frustrating problem for most ladies.

Hi Hope,
My name is Gina and I work with your mom at xxxxxxx. We were talking today and she was telling me that you do makeup really well and have a lot great tips. I told her I have a problem with my eye shadow creasing. I have bought the cheap stuff to put on your lids to prevent creasing and bought the little more expensive stuff at Urban Decay but it still seems to crease after about 4 hrs. Is there anything u recommend that helps prevent creasing? Please let me know of any other products that would help...

Here are a few tips to try to keep the dreaded eyeshadow meltdown at bay:

Dry Surface. Before applying anything to your lid make sure you are working with a dry surface. Cut out heavy eye creams (save these for night time) and super moisturizing concealers that can add unnecessary oil to the lid. Sometimes I'll even swipe a little toner over the lids before I start applying my eye makeup.

Powder. The best and easiest solution to this problem is to prime your lids with a little foundation or concealer. This will help control oil just like it does on your face. DON'T forget to set this with powder and keep the foundation/concealer to a thin layer. No heavy hand and make sure to BLEND, BLEND, BLEND.

Primer. Once you have powdered your lid you can move to using your primer of choice. If you are SUPER oily I would recommend staying away from a silicon based primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion.) I have noticed that they do a great job of smoothing out the lid, but have a tendency to become a little greasy. If you have already invested in the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I would first suggest that you just cut back on how much your putting on your lid. More is NOT better with this product and can actual cause it not to perform properly. I prefer cream to powder primers. Noteworthy primers: MAC Paint Pot- Painterly & MAC Paint- Bare Canvas

Thin layers. Always tap off any excess shadow product before applying shadow to your lids. Start out with a subtle veil of color, building up with another thin layer or two, as needed to prevent caking. Tip: Use a flat-head eye shadow brush to apply shadow, working in a stippling motion to set in.

Eyeshadow. Cream and shimmer eyeshadows seem to be the biggest culprit of these pesky crease lines. If you are using a cream eyeshadow make sure to set it with a similar color powder shadow or translucent setting powder. The best rule for shimmery eyeshadow is to stay away from the eyelid crease and use it more to highlight your brow bone or inner corners.

Hopefully this can give you a better understanding of what might be causing your oily eyelids. Play with these tricks and tips and see what works best for YOU! Cheers to NO more makeup meltdowns :)

I revisited some mascara that I had in my mascara drawer and I'm in LOVE! I bought this mascara a couple of months back, used it once, thought it was eeeeemmmmmmm and threw it back in the drawer. WHAT I SAY:

I naturally have long lashes so for mascara to WOW me it needs to be really impressive. I haven't experienced any flaking, messy smudging, or clumpy spider lashes. YES! This is all a plus considering its a drugstore mascara and is super cheap ($7.) The texture of the formula reminds me of my YSL Singulier mascara that I only wear on special occasions because it drys out super fast and comes with a $30 price tag. It makes my lashes look super thick and most of all super soft. I HATE mascaras that have a really wet consistency and leave your lashes hard as rock. The wand take s a little time to get use to, but it grows on you after a while. In the picture above I have Brownish Black on. I also have the Black Drama formula that is matte. I'm in LOVE <3

WOW.....What a difference eyebrows can make! Well groomed eyebrows can transform a face. They are the frame of our eyes and they have the power to change your whole look. A lot a people overlook the eyebrows and I must say that's a NO, NO! In additional to nicely groomed brows, you must also fill them in to highlight and define the shape. In all the years I've been doing makeup I have never seen perfect eyebrows that didn't need a little brow filler. So pullout your pencils and powders and DEFINE those brows!

I LOVE the results! It was totally worth the wait. I think the biggest selling point for me is the long wear and natural look. My nails don't feel any thicker than they do with regular nail polish. I got my LOVE for bright lipstick from Mimi. She was an amazing confident woman that commanded power, exuded elegance and lit up any room she walked in. It's crazy to think that what I thought was "grandma lipstick" is now something young, hip and trendy. That is one great thing about beauty........it never goes out of style!

This is one of many tubes of lipsticks that I saved. I can remember riding around in her cream Cadillac and pretending I was her personal assistant rummaging through her purse to find tic-tacs and choosing which amazing shade of bright lipstick would match her outfit the best! Ahhhhh the memories :)

WHAT I SAY:

Whoa, this stuff is amazing!

I don't know what made me try this product, but I'm so glad I did. I'm usually pretty snotty when it comes to foundations because I feel like it is the most important piece of makeup that you put on your face. Foundation can make or break your whole look.......and if your not careful your face! I think my original quest to try this makeup was purely based on the fact that it was marketed with the Olay name. I'm a sucker for anything Olay, probably because they have never let me down :), tried and true.

Anyways, on to the actual makeup.

The compact is clear and translucent purple. The clear side contains the cream foundation with a white swirl of Olay Regenerist and screws on to the purple side that contains the sponge. So, its more of a container than a compact. No mirror :(. The cream foundation is very light feeling on the skin, almost like a quench of hydration. It glides over the skin to create a flawless finish instantly. Every time I wear this foundation I get compliments on my skin. I have even found myself picking this stuff up over my expensive Chanel and MUFE when I'm getting ready. I just feel like it has the perfect combination of hydration without being oily and enough coverage to hide all my imperfections. Can it be true, drugstore makeup that feels and preforms like department store brands?

To make sure I wasn't crazy I tested it out on my sister, mom and mimi. All three have completely different skin types. It looked amazing on everyone! It gave everyone the same youthful appearance and exceptional coverage it gave me. I was sold and just had to tell everyone the good news :D. I have suggested it to other friends and I haven't heard any complaints so far. So let me know what you think! For about $14.00 its worth trying to see if you too will fall in LOVE!

Tips: When trying to pick a color I found it really hard to determine what shade to get because the Olay swirl lightens the color when applied. Go to your nearest Ulta and try the testers first. Also, setting this foundation with powder will help the staying power. I use Laura Mercier mineral powder.

Washing your skin is just important as brushing you teeth! I have noticed that since I starting using this product people ask me all the time what I use on my face to make it "glow." It kinda makes me giggle that its not some amazing cream or serum and its a simple deep cleansing routine that is done twice a day.
Seems to simple to be true, but it is! Not only does this product make my skin feel amazing, it also
helps to make the skincare products you are using absorb better and be more effective.

Important side note: When you first starting using this product you may notice a few blemishes as a result. With any deep cleansing, all your congestion is being removed and brought to the surface and will go away with continually use. WHAT I SAY:

I LOVE this chapstick. This my everyday go-to chapstick.
I have a bad habit when I'm sitting at work to pick, bite or lick my lips, but not with this stuff. I am adding this to my list of HG products. It's soft and subtle fragrance (reminisce of honeysuckle) doesn't irritate me and the not to waxy texture make your smackers feel super luxurious.

Also, if you like a little color to your chapstick try the strawberry flavor. My girlfriends love this one! The strawberry flavor is next to impossible to find, but I found it @ my local Meijer.

MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with DC Comics to release the Wonder Woman collection.
It is set to be launched on February 10, 2011.

I think the partnership with MAC and Wonder Woman is a fantastic idea.....maybe even supernatural!

This past year for Halloween I decided to go with a Disney classic, Alice in Wonderland. I thought it would be fun to get a little MAD with my makeup...hehe

TRIAL RUN:

I really liked the look of this one, but the cream makeup had a tendency to smudge.
I created this look to wear to a Halloween office party at work. I didn't think it would last a whole day at the office considering I had some phone calls to make before the weekend.
Purple makeup in phone receiver seemed a little messy for my taste. YUCK!
Caution: Make sure to tell the roommates that your playing makeup or you might scare them...hehe
